The Flourish Story: Curls, Courage & Community

True Story • Feature

In the heart of Arlington, Texas, there’s a salon that hums like a sanctuary — a place where coils, curls, and confidence bloom side by side.

Sess Lee Cannon didn’t set out with a blueprint for fame or fortune. Once working behind an office desk and raising her son as a single mother, she found small joy in styling friends’ hair after long days. A casual compliment from a tattoo artist nudged her toward cosmetology school, and a life pivot began.

Balancing classes, shifts waitressing, and parenthood, Sess invested in her craft. She specialized in natural curls — the textured hair many salons once treated as “difficult.” Starting in her living room, she carefully built a loyal following. Women drove hours to sit in her chair and feel seen.

In 2016 Sess opened Flourish Curls, a bright, plant-filled salon where natural texture is celebrated, not corrected. Her motto — Your curls are meant to flourish — became a promise and a rallying cry. Social tutorials, authentic connection, and meticulous care helped the business grow into a standout brand.

More than revenue, Sess’s work rewrote expectations. Flourish Curls became a place where clients reclaim identity and confidence, and where stylists learned that care and technique can change lives. The salon hums with blow dryers, laughter, and the steady work of building community.
